Politically incorrect but funny!  From XKcD.com Traditional media will make fun of this intense discussion but remember, it’s human nature to talk about something that is newsworthy – so mainstream media should be offering tools to do that better, not dissing it, right? I started a SocialMediaFlu hashtag (#socialmediaflu) on Twitter – there were zero instances when I started at 3:13pm Sydney time, let’s see where it goes. (Answer: lasted 19 minutes) <!– ckey=”197A691C” –>

If you are looking to download Social Media and PR Crisis Communication courseware for your workshops, it’s here.  I’m watching 4 Corners program on the Marysville bushfires. It’s so upsetting that I’m tearing up. But more than that I’m cross – the poor warning systems is disgusting. Stuff like the sirens to call the firefighters aren’t used (they have pagers now) so the residents had no clanging bells, no sirens to warn them. Background radio had no siren or loud noises to call people to attention. And the websites for various emergency services, local radio station websites were overloaded with Continue Reading…

Quick Post: Congratulations to Ellenor Cox and team for winning the interactive Emmy for their TV show with Social Media Scorched.TV: The guys that made Scorched.tv did a week workshop (the LAMP Residential) and a two-day workshop (LAMP Insights) at AFTRS with me on how to social media campaign their TV show. And while scorched.tv is not perfect – hard to build a ripple campaign when months get snaffled off you – they initiated those first crucial steps towards a social media entertainment future. A brave new world for film and tv directors and producers. I’m back in Sydney (back Continue Reading…

Sacked journalists take to blogging? I was on Twitter’s party line for the Monday night (USA time) chats on journalism #journchat, and was a little taken aback to see the number of journalists tweeting about losing their job, papers closing, and so on. Then this one caught my eye. @Machione: @amyvernon I’m a journalist whose paper closed. Accepted in Typepad’s Journalist Bailout Program. http://starkreporter.typepad.com #journchat Being incurably nosy, I went off to look at Typepad’s “Journalist bailout program“. Now called Typepad for Journalists. Typepad is a blogging platform, white label (hosted) service, extremely wellknown and used by all sorts of Continue Reading…

Daniela is staying with blogger (and social diagram maker extraordinaire) David Armano. You can read her story here – basically, escaping  from an abusive marriage, she is a Romanian immigrant, with 3 children to support, one with Down’s Sydnrome. Daniela cleans house when she can for pennies.  David Armano and family are putting the family up at the Armano house. What is interesting is the ClipIn. David tweeted at about 10am this morning Sydney time. By 6:30 tonight, he had $9, 600 – nearly double what he was asking ($5000), and all within a day – well before the February Continue Reading…
