'Antarctica #31' by Jason Kimberley

Naked Yak have been travelling the world looking for you. Scary huh? :P

Who Are We Looking For?
Many people can write in a conversational style, but few can engage people effectively across different media. Fewer can combine that skill with the ability to be a good listener, and to reflect collective opinions rather than simply their own. And fewer still can also engage individuals directly and more personally.
We are looking for someone who can do all of the above; someone who will represent the collective voice within Naked, and especially that of all the members in Australia; who will encourage others, particularly down under, to participate in open messaging and/or in Naked; who will spark members to share the service and participate in its development.

Who is Naked?
See who we are

Must be prepared to wear the office uniform. I think they would be a cool company to work for. Details here. Jobs in Australia and overseas.

EDIT: I had a very nice voicemail from NZ Police Superintendent Hamish McCardle, the officer in charge of developing the new act – he wanted to let us know that they agree about transparency and that today the wiki is back up as a Document of Record. He also mentioned that they got a huge amount of press coverage overseas including the BBC. The Sydney Morning Herald asked me about a New Zealand Wiki that had emerged out of the New Zealand Police Department. I (of course) pretended I was completely up to speed on it all, while madly Googling Continue Reading…

Just to balance out the previous post:I posted up on bloggerati australia back in Mid-August the AustralianIT article about a proposed Consultation blog by Canberra. TechCrunch’ Duncan Riley (Australian Government Proves Why Blogging Is Best Left To Everyone Else) (who hat tips Des Walsh) brought the finalised paper to the attention of Priscilla who posted it on blogger Senator Andrew Bartlett Facebook wall. Now it’s my turn to have a little say: As the success of this initiative requires participation by citizens, this paper asks for your opinion on some important issues that will affect the ways you can contribute Continue Reading…

From Mashable (why didn’t I see this anywhere else? hmmm?): Is Australia the New China? by Kristen Nicole Several privacy advocates are in an uproar in response to a bill introduced by Australia’s Parliament, which would grant the country’s federal police the power to control which sites can be accessed by users of the Internet. Titled the Communications Legislation Amendment (Crime or Terrorism Related Internet Content) Bill 2007, the federal police would have the power to add onto (or remove from) the blacklist, naming sites that are currently banned from Australia , as determined by the Australian Communications and Media Continue Reading…

Yeh I know, pollies in online communities is boring, but here’s an interesting debate at broadband’s most powerful online community, Whirlpool (WP), posted half an hour ago: Does Whirlpool have a formal policy on what sort of contributions political candidates can make here? A few weeks ago, I ran upon the site of a NSW senate candidate with very forwarding thinking IT/broadband/comms/energy related policies. I pointed it out with a thread in OtI which was promptly deleted for being promotional. Yesterday while idling in a Linux-related IRC channel, I read someone (who turned out to be the same person!) saying Continue Reading…

I’m watching the fun run – swarms jogging up from Woolloomooloo to Lady Macquaries Chair. The fun part for me is that I’m watching it from my apartment, while sitting in jammies and sipping English Breakfast Tea. The Blackmores Sydney Running Festival is on this Sunday, 23 September. Don’t despair if you have not:1. collected your event kit (please ensure you can quote your bib number for ease of collection)2. replacement of timing chips3. race changes (cash only accepted for upgrades)4. uncollected merchandise (can be retrieved at the Asics/Rebel tent at the finish The above can all be rectified from Continue Reading…

Just a quick note: I had a lovely email from ‘sprung‘ apologising for the site scrape of this blog to centerofcontents.com. He bought a SEO script and didn’t realise fully what it meant – I’m not posting his whole email, but here’s a snippet. After i found your post, And i chew over about this many times, It make me realize and feel bad about what i have done, And you may not forgive me for this That’s ok but i just want to say “I’m sorry” and i promise to you that it will never happen to you and Continue Reading…

I heard about this on Wednesday – anyone told the Australian Financial Review yet? (Here are my previous pieces on AFR here and here). On Tuesday at midnight this week the New York Times released its archives since 1987 from behind the previous for-pay wall that kept those archives from being searched. Already, it is possible to find articles in those archives through Google and other search engines. As an exercise in how search engines in the open Internet cut through the chaos of billions of Web pages to find what you ask them for, pick a topic that interest Continue Reading…

Friend of mine needs advice. Should she go see this guy’s band (long story) or stay away? Please go to her site and vote -there’s a poll – before the weekend, cos she’s not sure what to do with him? Hmmm? What do you mean, this post is not about social networking? It is so about social networking! If I can’t ask my social network to give romantic advice, what can I ask them? What use are y’all? I’ve told her my opinion, but she doesn’t listen to me. Nobody does. I’ve forgotten where I saw this originally Have a Continue Reading…

Yep Teledildonics is exactly what you think it is. Long before Amy Jo Kim and Jenny Preece wrote their Social Networking bibles in the late ’90s, and long, long before Danah Boyd started making friends on Friendster, Howard Rheingold was writing, speaking and evangelising communities online (late ’80′s). How can you not love a man who writes 20 pages on Teledildonics his book Virtual Reality. How can you not worship a technologist/futurist who opens a chapter with: There was a young man named Kleenewho invented a fucking machineConcave or convex, it fit either sexand was exceedingly easy to clean Ask Continue Reading…

It always kills me the length people will go to, online, to stay across information. On one of my forums, about 4 or 5 years ago (when it was harder to do) a member ran a cache/proxy so that he could monitor every delete and edit. God forbid you should put something up and then go back in and edit it for spelling errors etc. These Type A members of your community often get called Forum Nazis. They just can’t let it go… Portuguese barn houses 180 cars, all covered with decades of dust Talking of investigating something online, and Continue Reading…

From Lorelle‘s blog -see EDIT at bottom Center of contents dot com is scraping this blog, whacking Google Ads on it, and basically trying to drive up traffic using my content, unattributed. They will probably let the domain name “age” – get high up on Google Ranking around the keywords to do with – and then sell it to a content/community provider. Actually the words seem to be around online schools so they may have a client in mind already. By putting Google Ads on the site they are earning revenue as well. They also link their hundreds of splogs Continue Reading…
