I reckon it would be a fun place to work – I wonder if they get cheap tickets? This is from seek.com.au and I think they have opened up their links so they work now. Yay!

Just two quickies, poppets, cos I’m busy, busy, busy:Mike Moran responds to my post regarding CMS equals Business Suicide. Anyone else out there got a link with why CMS and SEOs get on together ok or otherwise? But Mike wrote the book on search engine marketing (tongue in cheek tagline) so he must know. I just re-read Day 10: Geek Gear learns some painful lessons in e-commerce after launch. It really is a brilliant post and carries with it some fundamentals about corporate blogging. Quite a surprise coming from ACP? In spite of the fact I couldn’t find the link Continue Reading…

Versus Before you go cuddling up to Anson, it’s not our WebJam. Some, no doubt vastly inferior imitation, other WebJam. I didn’t go too far into it, just signed up really but it actually doesn’t look too bad – sort of a Ning.com competitor, with drag and drop blocks (blogs, forums, and so on): A London-based start-up founded by Yahoo! veterans, Webjam, provides individuals and communities with an innovative and versatile platform to create, aggregate and share contents online. The investment from French early stage venture capital firm I-Source Gestion will fuel further product development and global expansion. London, UK; Continue Reading…

(or: Social Media Optimisation versus Search Engine Optimisation)I blundered in on a private tiff over at ACP Mags “Geek Gear” site. It was about SEO optimisation. Note that Geek Gear hasn’t translocated (is that the right word?) their URLs/pathnames from a node number to words that are Google Juice friendly. One of the commenters aggressively pointed out that Geek Gear are n00bs at SEO. Which is probably fair as they were just talking about their first jaunt into optimising their site. I doubt they are going into practice any time soon as SEO gurus, blackhat or otherwise. This commenter did Continue Reading…

What We Call the News | Send To Friends | Funny Animations at JibJab Found on Calcanis *laughs* This JibJab is cool – What We Call The News (unfortunately, embed doesn’t work). I really liked it. Especially as the discussion online this week has been Scoble et al’s rumours of the death of traditional media. Which are greatly exaggerated. But then again those jibes were just payback for the nasty comments from traditional media about loser-generated content and user generated crap. E.g. this blog. Oh and not a bad way to get people to sign up : Technorati Tags: user Continue Reading…

I’ve been a little surprised at the furore created the Kathy Sierra story. Kathy received “death threats” from a deranged poster, over reacted (in my opinion) and pulled out of ETech. She then blogged about it, posting up the fotos (photoshopped with bondage thing on) herself, posted up copies of the emails (which were disgusting) and called for the blogosphere to control the speech of wierdos. Scoble has come out in support. BBC has reported on it. Traffic to her site has increased. What to do? Grab IP address (MAC if you can), email the ISP that manages it, notify Continue Reading…

Musings… I’d like the posts that have been commented on, to rise to the top. And/or a widget for “most commented” that I can stick on the right hand side. (I write a lot of crap but every so often, one post will catch oodles of attention). I’d like to be able to stick a post or two, so that the latest post DOES stay at the top. Effectively it would look like thisLatest Post – XYZ 0 commentsPopular Posts – ABC 10 million comments – DEF 12 comments – GHI etcThe rest I think the other stuff – ratings Continue Reading…

In case you can’t read this banner, it says: Following IKEA News and Gossip For The Buckeye State Since 2004: Because Its Okay To Have Your Couch Be Cooler Than You Are.Students in my class laugh at me when I go on and on and on about IKEA. I guess I tried to pick a company that everyone knew but didn’t get too excited about, that had online fans. I mean, of course there are Harley Davison sites and Ducati sites and band and sports sites by fans. But IKEA? Rather than Google IKEA, let’s wiki search it… WikiPedia search: Continue Reading…

Cute startup – this report from TechCrunch: We reported on the launch of Scribd, the “YouTube For Documents” a little over two weeks ago. The site drew a significant amount of traffic at launch. Unlike most startups, though, that traffic didn’t just vaporize after a day or two. 100,000 or so unique visitors come the site daily. 12,000 documents have been uploaded to 8,600 unique accounts (35% anonymous). The team says the site’s traffic has been about an even split between U.S. and non-U.S. visitors (and about half of the documents are non-English). One prolific member, Builder (Bill Allin), has Continue Reading…
