The Dream: David N Wallace

Hey! I know him! That’s David N Wallace with his mug on telly. Adelaide boy, uber mensch with kludging bits together. He’s talking about an inclusive community here for dis/abled people – people “making stuff” for people who “need stuff”. What I’m about at LifeKludger’s is the fact that, again, some of the things need modifying. It’s not straight you grab something and it works. And we’re all individuals. But part of loving what your doing is just growing this ecosystem where there’s you know, a huge group of people out there that make things and pull things apart just for the fun it you know called Makers, all around the world, you see them everywhere, and i would sort of like to grow some sort of ecosystem where you can join up these people who make things for fun and the people who need things for Life, you know, that’s sort of, you know, what the dream is…

Who was on the phone David? 😀

I’ve talked about the Fourth Sector before on this blog.

Strange that David should post this up tonight. I’ve just been to a venture capitalist mentors’ evening where they talked about investing in social networks. Strange because two years ago I was told there was no R.O.I on social networks, even though there are maybe 10 or 12 business models for monetising them. (Remember? advertising and user pays are the bottom two?) But disturbing because I kept hearing the old chestnuts – ‘know where the money is’, ‘know your exit strategy’ – understand when to take the money and run. ‘Have as an option to IPO’. I wonder what those VCs think of Zuckerberg from Facebook?

The 22 year old founder, Mark Zuckerberg has been rumoured to have been offered $1 billion by Yahoo to sell Facebook, but Zuckerberg claims that, “I’m here to build something for the long term. Anything else is a distraction. “ (April – pre Facebook Apps – 2007)

And what would they think of David N Wallace’s dream?
