Avatar in 3D, Assassins Creed 2 movie and game, all at the Tsuke launch.

Gary Hayes got an invite to the launch of video games Assassins Creed 2 and Avatar in 3D in Sydney tonight. So we hotfoot it there, me dressed in my monk’s outfit, hiding a stiletto up my sleeve, everyone else in suits. Ok, that was a fib. They were in suits and being boring, but then again so was I.

Assassins Creed 2 Tokyo Game Show Trailer [HD]

Assassins Creed 2 looked good. Great graphics. You can row (?) a gondola in the canals of Venice. Now, when you kill someone, you can pick up their body and carry it, fireman style, over your shoulder and hide it somewhere. The whole thing is faster… The original Assassins Creed sold 6 million copies so I wonder what this one will do?

  • Almost 300,00 copies sold in Australia of the first one
  • 80% of parents play video games with their children (Daaaaad? is it my turn now? pleaaaase?)
  • In 2008, sales of video games increased to $1.96 billion
  • games grown 112% since 2006 (not as much as Twitter, but close)
  • I actually really enjoyed being in a social space – some PR haunt on Oxford, called Oxford Arts Factory? – and having the developer play the game. We, the audience were calling out and engrossed in the game play. Much better than a film.

I’m an MMO player (Massively Multiplayer Online)  not a solo locked down content player, but Assassins Creed 2 look ok. 🙂

Speaking of films, they showed a trailer of one of the 3 Assassins Creed films being launched on YouTube soon. Not for me I must admit: real actors, real sets turns it from a game world into an action movie. ie.. not interesting.

    Avatar game in 3D

The highlight of the evening was playing James Cameron’s Avatar in 3D. The new 3D TV screens are around $5,000 (yes, please, I’d love to have one, thanks) but absolutely make you wonder why you ever played in 2D. Monsters jump out of the screen onto your lap. I ran from the room screaming…

Looks like Crysis, if you know that game. Totally awesome.  I disagree with the guys in the video above… 3D

is not about shadows for pete’s sake!

I’ve played World of Warcraft in 3D thanks to Gary Hayes 3D glasses by Vuzix for PC so I’m looking forward to the new slew of games.

Shame the film versions won’t live up to the games, again.
