How do you go from 1/2 a billion members to over a billion in a month? Merge YouTube, Gmail and Google Plus. YouTube has over 1 billion monthly active users, Gmail and Google Plus are both on 1/2 a billion MAUs (Monthly Active Users). In comparison Facebook has 1 billion MAUs. One quick way to convince Business to migrate to Google Plus business pages is to bring all their customer channels together.
Imagine logging into your Google Plus profile and you have new menus on the left: Video, Mail, Places. Easy to imagine withe the Google Plus layout so similar to Youtube OneChannel and new Gmail.
Otherwise how else do you explain how much Google’s video service YouTube is looking like Google Plus these days? Compare old and new:
Then I had another look at Gmail rebranding – new compose, new bits and bobs and it occurred to me how easy it would be to just rebrand it as Google Plus.
Merging of Google Plus Business Pages & Google Places is a no-brainer. Facebook already has merged Facebook Places and Business Pages, it makes sense not to run two separate business Pages, one for your shop and one for your shop’s location.

One idea though Laurel would be to loose the trolls from YouTube, which has a really bad comment stream. It seems that people feel it’s Ok to attack others by their comments.
Merging YouTube into Google Plus suddenly puts accountability into comments : your mum might see them. It would make YouTube comments more manageable with one identity. No?
YouTube is just rolling out Google plus integration for business and multiple accounts management for a channel. My business YouTube channel is already managed by different personal profiles using Google plus, so the merge is already happening.
And it messes with Google’s most strong feature, Internet search results
Given the popularity of YouTube, the new all-in-one should be called YouTube+
It’s been fairly obvious for quite a while now that all of Google’s properties are having that same look and feel branding applied. It kinda makes business sense really. If I go to my G+ page/s, or my Gmail accounts, or Google Apps pages, or YouTube, Blogger etc – they are all starting to look alike. Whether they all formally merge is another thing though – it needs to make sense to do so. This is a case where the technological advancement really needs to slow down a bit (because anything is possible) to be able to drag people along. Google learnt their lesson with Wave – a product way ahead of its time. They will be careful this time around – but in the end it will all morph into an ecosystem where you can add appropriate components that you want to use – but importantly, not have any of them foistered on you – this causes rejection.
