Kinda odd to think I have readers in beautiful, far away, Portugal. Anyway, I think we’ll make it into a bit of a holiday. Take a few days and look around. What do you think?

EDIT: bumping this one up as I’m leaving tonight. Friday 12th June. May blog more, or less, depending on my mood, the weather, food and alcohol on the Algarve. :P

I hate it when I see that an audience has paid a truckload of $$$ to attend a conference and what they get is advertisements from the speaker on the podium. *smack* This came outof TEDTalks via Tim Longhurst (today): Thou Shalt Not Simply Trot Out thy Usual Shtick. Thou Shalt Dream a Great Dream, or Show Forth a Wondrous New Thing, Or Share Something Thou Hast Never Shared Before. Thou Shalt Reveal thy Curiosity and Thy Passion. Thou Shalt Tell a Story. Thou Shalt Freely Comment on the Utterances of Other Speakers for the Sake of Blessed Connection and Continue Reading…

I speak at a few conferences. I don’t consider myself a professional public speaker – no more than I am a professional blogger, it’s an aside from my main business – but I like public speaking. It gives me an audience for high level views of my ideas, forces me capture the essence of my thoughts in 40 minutes which in turn helps me to develop the concepts into 1/2 day, 1 day or 3 day workshops. I meet people who love what I talk about and I get free coffee and bikkies. Sometimes a rather average glass of white Continue Reading…

Defamation laws need to change. Or the courts will be swamped. Media distribution is now in the hands of everyone, and not everyone will behave themselves: Fuzzy Wikipedia Entry Leads to Zoeller LawsuitWikipedia founder Jimmy Wales declined to comment on the suit, but he said Wikipedia is no different from any Internet message board — meaning objectionable comments have to be posted before they can be removed. “We try to police it pretty closely, but people do misbehave on the Internet,” said Wales, of St. Petersburg, Fla.Pro golfer Fuzzy Zoeller is teed off over what he calls defamatory statements about Continue Reading…

As a follow up on my bite on politics, the press gallery and Australian collaborative journalism, go have a look at The National Forum. We recognise that to be successful this revolution must involve everyone: that it must harness and focus all the forces of civil and political society across the whole spectrum of views. To that end we have already enlisted as members some significant Australian institutions including the University of Sydney, the Brisbane Institute, QUT, the Local Government Association of Queensland, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, Australians for a Constitutional Monarchy and Oxfam Community Aid Abroad, as well as Continue Reading…

Went off with Erietta and Jo S to The Sydney Institute tonight, and gosh! who would’ve thunk that journo’s would have a way with words??!!?? Great speakers, all 3 of ‘em. Matt Price from The Australian introduced the topic – The Gallery: Insular, Intrusive or Indispensable? – and very amusing he was too. No real reference to how media is changing, unlike second speaker Margaret Simons who really seems to get that the business model is not changing but HAS changed. Margaret Simons asked – where’s the money in newspapers? Are journalists and editors defunct? Advertising has been seperated out Continue Reading…

On November 5th, I wrote in Sydney Morning Herald’s Razor blog:Wiki collaborative efforts work beautifully. Telstra may indeed have plenty of smarties but even smart people get in a rut, going round and round and round. They may find that more viewpoints and input equals greater creativity of solutions. And if the “smarties” really had everything under control, they wouldn’t be facing the situation they have today, no? A wiki intiative wouldn’t hurt and might actually help, at least people would feel they had a say. If Sol can raise customer satisfaction with something as simple as forums or a Continue Reading…
