I was in Melbourne yesterday, giving the keynote at Glen Frost’s Frocomm New Media Summit conference. Great crowd, lots of thoughts flying around.

Basically I went through a few different types of social media networks – blog (content), wikis (collaboration) and so forth. I also included this video of RocketOn to show the Live Web

RocketOn – a layer over normal web pages so that Avatars can chat about the news and play with pixel branded products.

…and also made mention of non-media social networks such as social telecommunications and social banking. But really I quickly showed how various Government and public sector agencies were using social media for communication.

Caveat: There’s a lot of different ways of slicing and dicing social networks. In this post, I want to show the three fundamental approaches that social networks use for activity around social media. If I was writing about identity, profile and management of friends, it would be a whole different grouping of examples.. I think. Another caveat: blogs are a technology, not a social network, so they can be used in different ways e.g. a PR blog is one-to-many, but you can have group blogs (few-to-many).
