Social networking on planes… not yet.. but Awesome! Awesome! (Gizmodo) Singapore Airlines must have had a fair bit of success when they rolled out iPod connectivity for business customers on their A340-500 aircraft last year, because they’re new Airbus A330-300 aircraft have an iPod dock for every passenger, including those bums back in economy. Nothing to do with social networks, but it does put a social networking device on a plane, and with other planes putting internet on demand, it’s getting close to … 22 HOURS OF WORLD OF WARCRAFT SYDNEY TO LONDON! woot! 6:10 am on a Saturday morning and unreliable NetBank (Commonwealth Bank) is down. Again. I’m on my way to the airport, to Singapore. I need to pay some bills blah blah. I wouldn’t mind but I get this message 1 in 3 times I log in, and I log in only a few times a month. Anyone got a better bank? I’d rather they shut the branches down than the online thingie. The bank I had in England had brightly coloured “pockets” and I could name them – travel, Xmas present, new phone – and move money around small amounts. Continue Reading…

CORRECT DATES I’m heading to Singapore this weekend, for a week. I’ll be teaching THREE seperate public courses, so if you are in Singapore – or can talk the boss into an overseas trip, heh – this is what we’ll be doing: Wednesday 29th October 2008: Education and Teachers and Online CommunitiesUnderstanding Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 for Teacher – what are the students doing online with creativity and knowledge? dangers and opportunities, resources for teachers and good sites, blogs, wikis (still taking suggestions, blog readers!) and the way forward including a teacher online community for teacher to teacher (p2p)support. I work with government departments on their social media policies. Both politicans and public servants have some of the same issues. Often showing them case studies of other immigration, tax, heritage, whatever in other countries or other States can help them see how they can sell the idea of conversation into their risk averse cultures. It’s all about knowing the fears then gently leading the fearful through the issues, which include staff doing inappropriate things online (get a policy), how to handle negative user opinions, staffing and resource issues (how much time do we have to dedicate), what if no Continue Reading…

Waiting to find out if my lost tickets to Saudi Arabia will resurface today or if the flight will be postponed til tomorrow. Apparently the reservation didn’t get ticketed, whatever that means. Dubai is riding into the rescue. I hope This was sent to me on December 2007, from Personalize Media Gary Hayes, so I guess I owe him one while I fill in time: The rules: 1- Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.2 – People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.3 – Continue Reading…

Brought to You by The So Bad it’s Good Department: Rap done by the senior management of Singapore’s Media Development Authority.Hat Tip: Katie ChatfieldWhen we enter into a relationship with the customer, a real one, with two way dialogue, preaching and lecturing sends ‘em running for the hills, or leaves them pouting and grizzling. But when we approach the relationship with fun and humour -and when did marketing stop being about having fun with the consumer? – a warmth, loyalty and sense of community between us develops. Fun video, highly technical information with big boring slabs of policy-speak all sexed Continue Reading…

I like the Hitwise email newsletter: Need a Date? For the week ending 02/02/2008, Singaporean Internet users spent an average visit time of 17 minutes and 44 seconds on Lifestyle – Dating websites. 74% of the total traffic to the Lifestyle – Dating industry for that week was directed to international dating websites such as Adult Friendfinder.com (www.adultfriendfinder.com) and Date For Keeps (www.dateforkeeps.com). Adult Friendfinder.com was the most popular website visited, with 19.39% market share of visits. I was wanting DateForKeeps to win, not AdultFriendFinder. *pouts* I really need to lose these soft, romantic rose glasses when viewing dating sites. Technorati Continue Reading…

Seven years ago, I lived in Singapore. I was there for nearly two years. And even back then, their adoption of technology was impressive. If I rang for a taxi, the automated system would ask me if I was 1. calling from home 2. calling from work, or 3. calling from elsewhere. Then it would ask me the same questions about where I wanted to go (home, work or elsewhere). If I was a work and wanted to taxi home, it would auto-give me the plate registration of the pickup cab. I heard that the GPS/LBS services now are such Continue Reading…

I did have high hopes for NowWeAreTalking (see my bloglet and subsequent comments) Telstra’s attempt to build an online community around it’s services. But. The Age (Helen Westerman and Rebecca Urban) has an article, Telstra makes a discourtesy call. TELSTRA’S online mouthpiece nowwearetalking.com.au likes to do some plain speaking. But a recent posting taking a swing at rival Optus regulatory affairs chief Paul Fletcher has caused some internal embarrassment for being a bit too unvarnished. The blog entry was apparently news to site editor, chief Telstra spokesman Rod Bruem, who has just returned from overseas. And he was not happy about it.“We’re Continue Reading…

This Chinese government initiative into online communities appeals to me, but I’m not sure why. After several manic days in The Sims, my sim died when I burnt down my virtual kitchen. If I can’t cook, wash up, clean and tidy in the real world, what on earth made me think I’d be successful in a virtual one? This new game has some of the same questions for me. How do you darn socks anyway? Pfft don’t you just buy new ones? Heroes Darn Socks in China’s Online World“Developed by the country’s biggest online game company, Shanda, the Chinese Hero Continue Reading…
