Why Attend

Been There? Done that? But results are not showing? What should have been done? Am I missing something?

  • develop a social media monitoring station to understand how and where people are talking about your business online
  • Understand how to measure the effectiveness of your press releases in Twitter and the blogosphere and social media marketing.

Benefits from this social media workshop

I love the bit about having to be where the students are and using modern tools . Not just education should be saying that! A Singapore-based university lecturer believes educators should harness the potential of social media as it is not only practical, this is in the interest of students who will go into the workforce as “efficient knowledge workers”. Toward this end, he encourages tweeting in class. While some balk at the idea of introducing Twitter into classrooms, Michael Netzley, assistant professor of Corporate Communication Practice at Singapore Management University, told ZDNet Asia in an e-mail interview that educators Continue Reading…

What is “the experience economy” – is it the next step on from agrarian, commodity, service…? How does value – and therefore money, currency – shift when people are more willing to pay for intangible experiences than physical goods? Can we monetize something in our minds? The first episode of my new podcast, Social Media Business, looks at revenue stream associated with providing your online community or social networks with a real world experience such as a meetup, conference or party.

Social media ROI return on investment is a popular topic but what about cost of inaction, COI?

I found this online community of bloggers today. Kinda cool: TechXav is a technology blog managed by a group of young and adroit bloggers between the age of 14-15. As tech enthusiasts, we write articles related to technology, especially what’s new on the web. For example, we review Web 2.0 apps, start-ups, publish breaking news and share our opinions and thoughts with adults all over the world. With an average of 3,000 daily unique visitors and over 1,000 RSS subscribers, TechXav is ‘one of the world’s most popular technology blog (under the teenage category)’. They are asking for help to Continue Reading…

While I was in Singapore last week, we talked about interesting campaigns, this was one of my favourites: the Singapore Government saw the need to increase the population of Singapore so they started a Romancing Singapore campaign. 1. Romancing Singapore campaign This is my all time favorite. 40 Years ago, when Singapore was an under developed little country, the government decided that campaigns would be needed to stop the population of growing, not to burst the obviously (Singapore is an island) existing borders of how many people Singapore could hold. This was executed through well done AIDS preventive, birth control Continue Reading…

If you are looking to download Social Media and PR Crisis Communication courseware for your workshops, it’s here.  I’m watching 4 Corners program on the Marysville bushfires. It’s so upsetting that I’m tearing up. But more than that I’m cross – the poor warning systems is disgusting. Stuff like the sirens to call the firefighters aren’t used (they have pagers now) so the residents had no clanging bells, no sirens to warn them. Background radio had no siren or loud noises to call people to attention. And the websites for various emergency services, local radio station websites were overloaded with Continue Reading…

Quick Post: Congratulations to Ellenor Cox and team for winning the interactive Emmy for their TV show with Social Media Scorched.TV: The guys that made Scorched.tv did a week workshop (the LAMP Residential) and a two-day workshop (LAMP Insights) at AFTRS with me on how to social media campaign their TV show. And while scorched.tv is not perfect – hard to build a ripple campaign when months get snaffled off you – they initiated those first crucial steps towards a social media entertainment future. A brave new world for film and tv directors and producers. I’m back in Sydney (back Continue Reading…

Amazing news that Facebook -  footage from AllFacebook.com also amazing is that once again, we see information that a few years ago wouldn’t have made it far out of that room, now available on the ‘net. Facebook should theoretically be crossing the 200 million users level tomorrow based on our estimates but according to Wei Zhu of Facebook, the number could be as high as 280 million. While speaking at a Facebook Tech Talk, Wei Zhu slips and says that the site has 250 million users if not 280 million users (I’ve included the video below). At that point a Continue Reading…
