You can create your own online newspaper from online community content using paper.li – so I thought I would create a social media newspaper from the tweets of Australian journalists. I made a list of 500 journalists on Twitter, now their tweets dynamically update my online newspaper. Cool eh? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes, indeedy.

If you would like to see what these journalists are tweeting about on Twitter go to @SilkCharm/australianmedia But if you like the pretty newspaper below, go to paper.li/SilkCharm/AustralianMedia – there is a morning and an evening edition.

This "newspaper" is made up of the tweets of 500 Australian Journalists

What would happen if you owned a newspaper but you asked your readers to do the distribution for you? The Washington Post has implemented the Social Graph from Facebook: Use your Facebook network on the Post Web site Note to readers: Today you will find a new home page feature, at the top right, that allows you to create a more personalized, social way to experience the news. We call it Network News. At Media140 I said mentioned that journalists (well some, anyway) weren’t really members of the social networks, just using them to lift stories, out of context, with no respect for the online community family. Or, weirdly, move between the two – sometimes mucking around with the rest of us on Twitter, the next minute lifting content to ridicule in heritage media channels. It’s annoying when a joke or a miffed tweet meant to be human interaction becomes front page News. From Marieke Hardy of Triple J on ABC NEWS That’s right, I reserve my most sophisticated material for between 6:00am Continue Reading…

The London Standard today told readers “Sorry For Losing Touch”. There are 5 stages to the loss, grief, death cycle according to Kubler-Ross: Denial: Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of situations and individuals that will be left behind after death. Example – “I feel fine.”; “This can’t be happening, not to me.” Anger: Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to care for due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy. Any individual that Continue Reading…

Facebook is used (mostly) by members as a gated community. They want to keep information within the network, not have it published in the newspaper. News.com.au sucks sometimes: Stinging status leads to Facebook fracas WE are nominating this the Facebook fracas of the week. Names have been changed and bad words bleeped to protect the guilty. Have you seen a bigger row recently? Let us know in the comments below. It all began with a status update. Then it went downhill fast.. This sort of thing disturbs me – I know, I know, we the former passive readers are now Continue Reading…

From Alan Mutter’s blog: Newspaper share value fell $64B in ’08 In the worst year in history for publishers, newspaper shares dropped an average of 83.3% in 2008, wiping out $64.5 billion in market value in just 12 months. Although things were tough for all sorts of businesses in the face of the worst economic slump since the 1930s, the decline among the newspaper shares last year was more than twice as deep as the 38.5% drop suffered by the Standard and Poor’s average of 500 stocks. When reviewing social media sites like this one, consider some facts: who is Continue Reading…
