NB: There’s an EDIT UPDATE at the bottom about this debate. Click on it, I dare you. “Forget Objective Reporting” AFR Feb 2006 I feel sorry for The Australian Financial Review, I really do. Out of all mainstream media, they get this web 2.0 thing the least. And it’s our only daily financial newspaper. *sad* The poor poppets. That clipping above is from February 2006 – I wrote to AFR saying that (in case you can’t read the picture): “…aren’t collaborative journalism, web 2.0, user generated content , personalised media and so on and so forth, the buzz words for Continue Reading…

I did an interview with Andrew Collins for voiceanddata.com.au a while ago. Just found it today. I really need to set that Yahoo pipes thing up properly for my name – Google Alerts sucks. In the interview, I talked about the impact of anti-marketing by customers on companies.: Social networks strategist Laurel Papworth also agrees, warning corporations they’ll be ‘blitzed’ if they don’t offer customers avenues of expression. To demonstrate the effects of neglecting Web 2.0, she points to the story of Sky Handling Partner, a cargo handling company. The company allegedly misplaced one customer’s luggage, leading the customer to Continue Reading…

When I read this about Tello last year.. Second, they’ve obviously decided that the bloggers don’t matter much. Om Malik and Alec Saunders took the time to write about them. Even though they each command a large and very relevant audience, Tello didn’t bother to list either of them on the news page. Lots of other bloggers wrote about Tello too (including our own MobileCrunch), but were not mentioned. Companies that don’t embrace bloggers tend to become attacked by bloggers. Companies that embrace bloggers, and thank them, get lots and lots of love. I wondered how a tech product expected Continue Reading…

Current.tv has launched in the UK this week, picking up another 25 million subs. They are on Sky (Ch 229) and Virgin (Ch 155). For those who don’t know, Current.tv has 28 million subscribers in The States, runs on Comcast, DirecTV and TimeWarner networks, is user generated content driven – including the ads – and the sponsors include Sony, UniLever, L’Oreal. Oh and the Chair is Al Gore. I was able to grab a word with Kim Williams, Foxtel CEO yesterday, and ask if this piece of Citizen TV goodness was coming to Australia and he said … ‘we are Continue Reading…

From Bizreport by Kristina Knight: Reuters Partnering With PluckIn a first-of-its-kind move, news syndication company Reuters will begin syndicating blogs. The partnership will join the news service with social media firm Pluck; along with the partnership, Reuters reportedly will invest in the firm. The partnership with Pluck, which runs BlogBurst syndiators, will give advertisers more variety, according to Reuters. “Pluck represents the next evolution in finding interesting information sources for our clients,” said Reuters President Chris Ahearn (via MediaPost). “The mainstream media can embrace the fact that a variety of blogs out there have compelling information that people can read.”Here Continue Reading…

I wrote a while ago about the possibilities of creating an online community – and linked to one in New York – that puts creative types together in a swarm. Earlier this year, Tom Anderson (yep, that Tom) of MySpace and Chris DeWolfe had this to say about cast and crew jammin’ online :p. You’ve now launched MySpace Records, which you are using to promote bands who are popular on the site but haven’t signed with a major record label. Do you have more products coming through the pipeline?DeWolfe: We’re always looking for the right opportunities. We are going to Continue Reading…

Dunno if that’s the right title but it will do for now. Found this little snippet by Bryan Zilar at WebMonkey, via umm Wired I think. Heather Gold is the inventor of something she calls Open Source Management. Through her company, Subvert, she stresses the importance of bringing socially open technologies such as wikis and blogs — as well as good, old fashioned face to face meetings — into the arena of personnel management. By using these open source tools, employees get a chance to contribute to the culture of their workplace. They can share ideas, build new relationships, and Continue Reading…
