Want a list of Australian CEOs that are on Twitter? Scroll to the bottom. Business Week have a piece on each CEO that uses the so-called ‘microblogging’ service Twitter. I don’t like the term micro-blogging when applied to Twitter as it’s less of a one-to-many asynch depth of content site like a video blog or a multimedia blog and more of a few-to-few synchronous chat channel. Tweets From the Chiefs The best chief executives are nothing if not efficient, and what’s more efficient than 140-character memos? Microblogging site Twitter is the latest tech tool to enter the C-suite. Whether they Continue Reading…

NewsFlash! From 24/7 Wall Street Social Networks Don’t Work For Advertisers: Web 2.0 Is A Bust (GOOG)(TWX)(NWS) Perhaps someone could have figured this out a year ago, Social networks like MySpace, owned by News Corp (NWS) and Facebook are poor targets for marketers. No wonder. A social network is a patch work of millions of largely unrelated people posting private and uninteresting things about themselves. Unlike web portals ala AOL, owned by Time Warner (TWX), where content is organized Continue Reading…

I received the usual Twitter email today: Well, I don’t blindly follow people so I went to check out PodBlanc. The first thing I check when joining or inviting someone on a social network is their profiles. Then I check friends. Then content. That is: Profiles (who are they?) Friends (how are we connected?) Content (what do they say and do online?) In this case podblanc’s profile said eugenicist. No clue what one of them is. Friends following 567, followed by 37. Not a great sign, I prefer a smaller ratio of difference. Content? Ah this is where it gets Continue Reading…

I’ve felt a bit like a voice in the wilderness, claiming Australians blog, we just don’t do it in a centralised, countable way (Blogger and WordPress are overseas sites). Certainly there have been some PR and media bloggers who say that Australians don’t blog or engage in User Generated Content (Consumer Generated Media). They were wrong and now we have stats (pdf) to prove it: The report has identified that among CGM activities, consumers are most likely to share/send photos and links, with content sharing and distribution generally seen as the initial entry point to CGM activity engagement – 84 Continue Reading…
