If someone puts up a video on the social network YouTube saying that God is Good and teaching Japan not to be heathens by sending them an earthquake for Lent do you think:

  1. oh that’s so right!
  2. wot a nutjob!
  3. a fake – like LonelyGirl or some other prank. Attention seeking viral campaign thingie.

UPDATE: Videos have been removed which is why they currently do not display.

is TamTamPamela a fraud (an agency cavorting and having fun with YouTubers)? Or real? You choose.

tip: Half a million online community views in a day is more of an agency play. But.  She’s been on YouTube for a year or two and an early video was about The Vatican shouldn’t donate to Haiti because they’ve been punished by God. I say #2. but CrowdPranking is on the rise. Put your grown up thinking cap on, I reckon.

UPDATE 4: “We do not have any affiliation with TAMTAMPAMELA her video was claimed by mistake and when we tried to fix she had already closed her acc.” @laughalonetv

While it’s fun blogging over the hour or so the “News breaks”, I just wanna get to the last page already. Prank or not? TV show or not?

I spoke on how Japanese companies were doing in social media overseas. Japanese people on the panel talked about online community and social media marketing at home, and I focussed on how it was working for Japanese companies in America, Europe, Australia etc. An amazingly popular talk, people were lined up outside to try and get in – though I think the conference itself had 8000 participants, so hardly surprising. You go to some conferences these days and the number of speakers out numbers the participants. The key for me was to look at group activity versus the use of Continue Reading…

That title Corporate Social Media looks funny doesn’t it? I mean, some people still think of ‘social‘ as ‘party‘. Like, Corey from Melbourne on MySpace. They don’t realise that ‘social‘ means ‘society‘ – friends and family, yes, but also sports heroes and politicians and other leaders, and those we deem tabloid worthy – the Angelina Jolie’s and Britney’s of our social sphere. I wonder if we had changed from online communities to customer communities or consumer networks if it would’ve looked less jarring? Corporate Customer Media or similar? I think companies will move their Corporate Social Responsibility front and centre Continue Reading…

From CNN: OKYO, Jan. 7, 2008 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) — Japan’s Matsushita Electric Industrial Co (NYSE:MC) , the world’s largest consumer electronics maker, has teamed up with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and YouTube to commercialize flat panel television sets that allow users to access and view videos online, the Nikkei reported on Tuesday, without citing sources. This will be the Google group’s first tie-up with a Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer in TV-related services, the business daily said. The Internet-enabled plasma TVs are expected to hit store shelves in the US this spring, it said. Google is the world’s largest Continue Reading…

Mike *Fang* Seyfang asked an interesting question on Facebook a month or so ago, and got some diverse answers. “Is FaceBook a Walled Garden“. I want to ramble on a lot longer than Facebook let’s me, so am going to think out loud on here. Short Answer: Walled Garden – the host or service provider restricts access to content (e.g. mobile phone content providers), products and services, other members and tends to control navigation. Gated Community – the members restrict or open access to their private profiles, private groups and private products and services by choosing themselves who gets access Continue Reading…

N.B. This note appeared two days after the problem started, and one hour before it was resolved. it didn’t appear on the main status page which read ‘green light’ during the entire outage, but in the My Status page (login required). Just a note for the Aussie readers: there’s been a problem on the ‘net for the last 24 or so hours. We can reach some pages but not others. It seems to be a problem with Telstra POIs. I’ve been on the phone with Telstra BigPond cable but besides the usual – restart router etc – they are at Continue Reading…
