Someone asked in comments on my blog – this one – “how to find followers or users on Twitter by location?” In other words, what town are those Twitter users in ? Can I make a list of those on Twitter who are in my local area? Finding Twitter followers by location seems to be dependent on one of two things
What will these boys see yet refuse to tell? Uh Oh. Could Twitter become terrorists’ newest killer app? A draft Army intelligence report, making its way through spy circles, thinks the miniature messaging software could be used as an effective tool for coordinating militant attacks. (Wired) Well, if a bunch of daft marketers can co-ordinate a collaborative agency – Twitter Agency – one assumes a group of guys with bombs might also see Twitter’s benefits.Taken from the How To Do Terrorism on the Web guide kindly published by 304th Military Intelligence Battalion. This recent presentation — put together on the Continue Reading…
Superduper stuff. Me ‘n Ajay ‘n the usual suspects err hosts of EEL chatting about the future of bio-informatics and GPS/Location Based Services, and the impact of virtual currency on economies. Futuristic stuff that is starting to happen today. In this first show for 2008 Laurel Papworth is handed the reigns to drive the show and brings a guest Ajay Ranipeta to have a chat. Ajay talks about Bio Informatics while as usual everyone else goes off on other interesting tangents (Led by Laurel of course). Dave is missing for the first half of the show but joins later. Imagine Continue Reading…
A new study from IpsosInsight (pdf), but I gotta say, this PR blurb makes it look like same-old, same-old. Eg. Europeans are more advanced than Americans with using mobile technology. So, I won’t be paying the 2000 bucks for the report. But if you do, and they’ve just marketed the report poorly, lemme know? I’ll reconsider then. Here is the blurb from their site: New York, NY — Web 2.0 and Social Media is all the rage but what does the Social Networker really look like? And how does visiting a social network really impact technology ownership, mobile phone features, Continue Reading…
Seven years ago, I lived in Singapore. I was there for nearly two years. And even back then, their adoption of technology was impressive. If I rang for a taxi, the automated system would ask me if I was 1. calling from home 2. calling from work, or 3. calling from elsewhere. Then it would ask me the same questions about where I wanted to go (home, work or elsewhere). If I was a work and wanted to taxi home, it would auto-give me the plate registration of the pickup cab. I heard that the GPS/LBS services now are such Continue Reading…

As most of you know, I do a bit of work with Mobiles2Go.com, the LBS GPS mobile solutions people. Here’s a brill story I picked up today from an email: Approximately 3 months ago my daughter took the ikids with her to the swimming pool. Later that day she calls me from a pay phone saying that she had lost it. I performed a ‘find’ and found that it was still in the same suburb. I then did a mobile route search a found that the i kids was in the same suburb but quiet far from where she was. Continue Reading…
You know how I talked about the Australian company Mobiles2Go products and services such as i-kids LBS and GPS kidsphone the other night at WebJam? Well, I thought I’d go and nominate them against the Wherifone (American product, not quite as up to speed as the Aussie one) at the Yahoo!Tech “Last Gadget Standing” awards. If you feel like helping me persuade them into reviewing it, please write a comment at the Last Gadget Standing blog. Or the one on Will Wherify’s Wherifone Be the Last Gadget Standing? Love you guys! PS I wonder how one nominates gadgets for awards? Continue Reading…
Oh Golly Gosh! I forgot to post this last week. Ah well, what could possibly be on a Tuesday night that you couldn’t cancel? Here’s the list of 3 minute presenters and here’s the details. I’m talking on LBS and GPS (mobiles), the Mobiles2Go i-kids product and hinting where they can go with online communities – think distributed comms to ‘net enabled devices. Chris Stephens is also talking. We knew Chris many years ago in the early first days of Optus. Ummm who else is going that can I have a giggle with… ?
