Natalie Imbruglia (@natimbruglia) responding to a fan on Twitter. natalieimbruglia

While a number of stars are still using Twitter for broadcast (get an intern to tweet 140 char press releases linking to full press release) more and more are using the online community Twitter in a social way. I blogged about the stoush between Perez Hilton and Ashton Kutcher where Ashton told Perez that basically he was just miffed because the blogger was being disintermediated – why do fans need people to blog/New Idea about celebrities when the celebs will tell us themselves through their own channel?

em-twitter

When it’s not Natalie, her management team (see above)  sign tweets E.M. (Egg Management). And there is a beautiful irony here – time after time in social networks I see the representatives become as ‘big’ a star as the stars themselves.  The community manager often is very popular, a known and *cough* loved entity. Very funny, this transference.

A sound engineer – knowingly or unknowingly – has revealed privileged information about Natalie’s upcoming performances in Europe. private-show-natalie-twitter

That was her response (and we know it’s Natalie because there’s no sign off of EM, and there is plenty of space/characters left to type that). If you are a massive fan of Natalie Imbruglia’s these private insights into an unknown world are gold. Much better than airbrushed posters or photoshopped lies in trash magazines. Not that we don’t love that trash too. Heh.

Wonder if she DM’d him with a personal ticket to the show in Prague?

PS the main page Thumbnail shows Nat’s boobs, not her head. Dunno why, they aren’t that great. *miffed*

Just kinda bookmarking this one – at war with your customer and forcing your customer to go to war with you, en masse. Warner Music Group are forcing Google’s YouTube to pull videos that have any recognisable Warner music in it. Background, homage, mashups, clips, concerts, cover’s, singing the shower, you name it, gone. I know that the musicians are mostly also pissed with this too. Gary had a machinima pulled – one where he got the musicians permission – and had to push YouTube to put it back up. They did – after the musician also stepped in.  This Continue Reading…

That title Corporate Social Media looks funny doesn’t it? I mean, some people still think of ‘social‘ as ‘party‘. Like, Corey from Melbourne on MySpace. They don’t realise that ‘social‘ means ‘society‘ – friends and family, yes, but also sports heroes and politicians and other leaders, and those we deem tabloid worthy – the Angelina Jolie’s and Britney’s of our social sphere. I wonder if we had changed from online communities to customer communities or consumer networks if it would’ve looked less jarring? Corporate Customer Media or similar? I think companies will move their Corporate Social Responsibility front and centre Continue Reading…

EDIT: Add 215 FriendFeed subs… can’t believe I forgot FF! Why don’t bloggers tell their statistics – visitor, comments, rss feed subscribers, email subs etc – more often, and more publicly? Is it that we think our friends/competitors (often the same in this social media industry, heh) will giggle at our inadequate tools? Is it that though we live by the mantra, niche not broadcast, we feel humbled by The Sydney Morning Herald having (either 350,000 circulation or 1,118,000 readers) on a Saturday, even though they are spread out over Domain, Drive, Spectrum and so on. By the way is Continue Reading…

From Strange Maps: For cartophiles, the main problem with this map is not that interviewer Larry King’s head covers most of Europe, or that the bulky figure of his guest, moviemaker Michael Moore, obscures much of America. The problem is not what it hides, but what it misplaces. See the huge island continent of Australia? Well, you shouldn’t. Most of it should be hidden beneath the desk, in between Messrs King and Moore. But Oz seems to have lost its mooring, drifting north to the latitudes of the Philippines, immediately off Australia’s west coast, and Hawaii, not far from the Continue Reading…

NOTE: I just deleted a tonne of contacts on LinkedIn – if one of ‘em is you, yell at me. I probably did it by mistake. I was trying to get rid of nasty recruitment spammers. I’m down from over 100 to just 55. And more to delete…. I should really sit back and polish this whine, presenting it as some sort of pseudo- research-ethnographic – profound -unbiased report on the social network, LinkedIn. Sod that! It’s my blog and I wanna have a bitchfest. (Feel free to join me). Reasons why I hate LinkedIn: I paid for full membership. Continue Reading…

The picture has nothing to do with anything, I just thought it was funny. Versus Before you go cuddling up to Anson, it’s not our WebJam. Some, no doubt vastly inferior imitation, other WebJam. I didn’t go too far into it, just signed up really but it actually doesn’t look too bad – sort of a Ning.com competitor, with drag and drop blocks (blogs, forums, and so on): A London-based start-up founded by Yahoo! veterans, Webjam, provides individuals and communities with an innovative and versatile platform to create, aggregate and share contents online. The investment from French early stage venture capital firm I-Source Gestion will fuel further product development and global expansion. London, UK; Continue Reading…

Do you know how hard it is to get funding around social networks and schools in Australia? It’s pretty tough. Digital learning network to kick off in Capital “The Wellington Loop project is not about cable or fibre-optics but about communities. Students of all ages will be able to connect to each other using webcams in multi cast – can you imagine a classroom or community hall with students discussing the wind of Wellington, showing their own movies, making charts, talking, writing poetry and being connected together and developing new knowledge bases. It is all about connection and participation. “This Continue Reading…

About this time a year ago I applied for a job at eBay Australia. I figured I’d have a good chance at it, having implemented US -centric initiatives into other theatres (Europe, Asia etc) for major technology companies in the past. I’ve built massive teams from the ground-up for eBay type corporates. Plus… no shock here… I love online communities and ecommerce that revolves around P2P not B2B. I didn’ t even get past the headhunter. These things happen. Today’s article in The Australian Fee Rise Hits eBay Minnnows by Simon Hayes outlines some of the challenges facing eBay and Continue Reading…

Recently I read an extract about the launch of an integrated TV show (might’ve been IPTV) that had user generated content and placed the community first and acknowledged the TV aspect as the loss leader. It was huge community and I think coming out of Europe. Anyone know of it? I’ve lost the article/bookmark/email or whatever it was that I was reading. There seemed to be an integration of offline with online through auto clubs as well. If I remember rightly. I strongly suspect they are using some ideas that I covered here about carsales.com.au meets SniffPetrol. But I’m not Continue Reading…

… is to freedom of speech or is it to not incite war? If we talk about ‘freedom of the press’ well, what is the ‘press’ these days? That naughty Tim Blair is at it again (the link is for his newish address, it would appear that he moves his blog every year or so – read on to see why. ) Ex-editor and current columnist, Aussie Timbo decided to post up those cartoons that caused a furore in the European Muslim community. Now if Alan Jones “leads the charge” (yep, I’m quoting Jonesy) currently with upsetting the Australian Muslim Continue Reading…
