Before the new Facebook interface was fully launched, I mentioned that it would be a good idea to plan some groups for you to filter your friends into. Lists like “business” or “cute” or “mum and her friends” or guys at work” or “guys at footy”.

So, I was trying to figure out how to put my friends into different groups (filter them) in Facebook and found it a bit tricky so thought I’d share it here:

EASIEST- WHEN ADDING AS A Facebook FRIEND

The best time to do it, is when you add/request people as friends, i.e. on the reqs page.

IF THEY ARE ALREADY A Facebook FRIEND – LISTS

Go to Friends

Go to Friends

You get this screen. They hid groups, lists, filters, whatever you want to call them, under TOGGLE.

Toggle is the Key

Toggle is the Key

Actually, number 1 should point to Friends Lists (your filter).

What are the number?

  1. Friends Lists – a list of groups that you are using. You can add at the bottom.
  2. Networks and old filters – Facebook had about 12 inluding school friends, colleagues and “Hookups” which must mean something less racy in America than it does in Australia!
  3. TOGGLE. Groups are hidden here.

So, what does Toggle do? It gives you more options:

I picked Kate Kendall cos she looks all gorgeous and Rembrandt-y. :P

Anyway, that’s where Facebook hid groups, lists, filters, whatevers.  Now use the groups to limit what content they can see. No more photos of you getting smashed at industry events open to the ‘work’ group or the ‘business’ group or even the ‘mum and friends’ group. *wink* Dont forget to add my Facebook profile to the ‘uber witty intelligent and funny social media’ list that you are going to create.  :P
