Social Media statistics: Ever wondered how many people are blogging, uploading videos, tweeting right at this very minute? Here’s a counter that displays growth of Twitter, money spent on Facebook gifts, number of SMS’s sent worldwide second by second. Social Network activity measured in real time.

Click on Games or Mobile or Social Media for different views of what’s goin’ on.

The next question is, what exactly are they doing? Wasting time at work, discussing the News, sharing communication on a birth, engagement, marriage, death?

The interesting story here, for me, is how viral this counter became. It’s been retweeted 850 times giving it an exposure in the high hundreds of thousands if not a million, embedded in blogs 115 times, gets 1750 views per day on Gary Hayes blog, and so on and so forth. You might want to factor that into the social media counter!

Note: I’m the fourth Australian to put this counter up on my blog, and Gary is my partner. Lee Hopkins was first and he, sadly, is not. heh. Project Factory and Mike Seyfang are the other two. The counter is wildly popular in Germany, England (The Guardian embedded it) and other parts of Europe, and the US is picking up on it now, as we speak (Wired embedded it). I just thought that was interesting…
