Farmville is better than sex. Don’t just take my word for it:

From FMyLife website:

Today, my husband and I were in bed, and just as I was about to finish he screamed, “Oh shit! It’s 4:15, my strawberries are gonna whither!!!!” and then jumped off me and went to check on his farm on FarmVille. An imaginary farm, on Facebook. FML

What would you do if this guy was yours?

  1. Leave him?
  2. Build a better farm?
  3. Build a better farm and then leave him?

I vote number 3. Are our lives changing? It’s interesting to me that a few years ago, he’d be like, “gotta go now, the footy is on the telly”. People don’t change. Just their pathetic excuses do :P Or is social gaming somehow a different beast? Have we time shifted our television viewing just to be sucked into the false urgency of reaping crops? Ummm, you answer that, I’ve gotta go milk the cows and harvest the pineapples.

My farm is pretty sexy, no?

Which brands would you call the police for if snaffled away from you by a family member?  What toys did you have taken away when you were a wee person? Mine was a teddy bear. Buffalo Grove boy dials 911 after parents take away his Xbox video game A 15-year-old boy told Buffalo Grove police that his parents had taken away his video game system and asked whether they were within their rights. They were, police told him. The teen called 911 about 12:50 p.m. Sunday but then hung up, said Cmdr. Steve Husak. Officers went to the house, and Continue Reading…

Avatar in 3D, Assassins Creed 2 movie and game, all at the Tsuke launch.

We got a Playstation 3 (on loan!) yesterday. Love it. But this advice is for all games boxes/consoles/whatnots over the “Tis the season to be gaming” holidays. Getting the your little darlings a PS3 for Christmas? Planning on having “Home” -the social virtual world – act like a babysitter while you get squiffy with your sister, gramps and the outlaws? I really really suggest you take the box into work or somewhere with a fast connection THIS WEEK. Get ALL the downloads and updates (it will take 24 hours at least). You thought forgetting batteries was bad? Wait until you Continue Reading…

What do I do in the evenings? Well, I have my avatars pose, act, and otherwise help/hinder Gary Hayes in exploring the 3D web on webpages. Why, what do you do? Here’s Gary’s post Inching Towards the live Web 3.0 – Layered Social Virtual Worlds My work in virtual world give me a unique – I think – perspective in observing the migration of the 3D element out of obvous game engine into overlays. Or at least, I have fun experiencing them. Like this food fight using the RocketOn overlay (a little addon for Firefox etc) on the Sydney Morning Continue Reading…

You might like this – it’s a machinima made by m’love Gary Hayes – we’re chasing each other through virtual worlds. So I am SilkCharm in both World of Warcraft and Second Life. BACKGROUND: Machinima is using game engines (the virtual world) to tell stories through video. Second Life is free (unless you buy land) and you make the world, a couple of million members. World of Warcraft is not free (about $13 a month I think, making $1.1 billion per year), the world is developed by Blizzard, and has about 60,000 preconstructed storylines that you have to complete as Continue Reading…

Report Get your passport photo ready! FaceSpook is here. Upload a photo when asked, the facemapping program places you in the story. You have to make a couple of decisions. People live or die by your choices. Interactive TV, online game and movie all in one.Now all I need is for them to make a virtual world out of it, and it’ll be truly cross media. What choices did you make and what was the outcome? Are you a fan of Spooks, the British spy show?Hat Tip: Gary Hayes and his LAMP post goes into much more detail. Tags: TV, Continue Reading…

David N Wallace has written a great post about accessing touch technologies and the disabled. The Touch Barrier – Accessibility and usability issues around touch technologies June 14th, 2008 I’m Worried. Worried about recent technology developments – actually the application of one technology in particular – touch. In this instance, when I say ‘touch’ I’m referring to devices requiring skin – a finger as opposed to a stylus – ala the iPhone and nearly every laptop on the market. (read more) Yes. Interesting article re: leveraging user generated content in and around games. You really should read the whole thing at clickz but here’s some snippets: Reinforcing the value of UGGC, Cliff Bleszinski, lead designer for “Gears of War,” said, “For a PC title that expects any sort of longevity in sales, playability, and online time, a mod community can be extremely important. Having thousands of fans of the game purchase and then modify the title while exchanging the fruits of their labor can turn a simple game into its own gaming platform.” (clickz) You have to understand the Chuck Norris Facts Continue Reading…
