I said on the 2WebCrew podcast ages ago that YouTube was dead and just didn’t know it. I got poohpoohed. But I think my points were valid. YouTube is trapped content. It’s not peer-to-peer, but hosted ‘static’ content. It’s like a traditional broadcast channel online. Look at how the politicians used it in the last Australia election. That’s not Social Video. It was great, for us to create content at home and then publish online, but it’s not collaborative.Enter Qik.Use your mobile phone and stream LIVE to their site. Not ‘film with your mobile and then upload, at your leisure, Continue Reading…
There are now three peer to peer or social lending banks in Australia, as far as I can determine. Well Fosik hasn’t launched yet… but it’s the latest one I have found:Here is a chart:Sorry it’s unreadable, it’s the same on their site… So instead of asking your bank manager for a loan, ask the social network. An eBay of loans – except there is not one “winner” – 99 people might finance 56% of your loan. Fosik is under Beta Test so I’ll show you the one from Prosper.comShows the % of the loan so far funded, with number Continue Reading…

Continuing my war against video advertisements as a revenue stream for anti-social media websites: .6.1.1. Or the required Ad viewing for Videos Animal13 – 05/28/08As if I had 30 seconds to waste to watch advertisements. And then if you pick additional related videos, more ads are required watching. I’ve gotten to the point of closing down the site at the first required ad. Nothing is that important to watch that I should be required to waste the additional time. Hear Hear and Amen. A beautiful quote. Unfortunately we will be barraged with video ads for the next couple of years Continue Reading…

I listened to this video of Andrew Maynard (I rarely watch videos) and although he was talking about architecture and sustainability, not pixels and bytes, he really had in his voice, The Voice of The Generation. Have a listen and you’ll hear what I mean – it’s beyond Architecture but a way of living for a new generation. Passion. Eco-Design. Activism. Fun. Games. Mashups. Portfolio of Talents. Equality. Interactive Architecture not Passive Designs. (What 3D program is playing in the background of that video?? Some virtual 3D CAD or is it a Second Life style world? And sorry SMH doesn’t Continue Reading…

Thanks to TED TALKS for telling me about this:Of course that’s on YouTube: Here’s an inspiring way to start the week. Take a look at these films. They are each just one minute long. They feature a choir in one country singing another country’s national anthem: a simple idea that packs surprising emotional power. France sings for USA Kenya sings for India Japan sings for Turkey They were shot by film directors looking to support the landmark TED project Pangea Day (which I hope you have calendared for Saturday, May 10). The event is looking amazing, and I will be Continue Reading…

Not my usual well thought out – *frowns at you* – post , just some jottings on the consumer economy. BANKING 2.0 – social network personal banking and peer to peer loans will take off in a big way. Perhaps not the way Virgin Money/CircleLending, or Zopa or Prosper see it, but it will happen. Screws the banks in the same way Web 1.0 screwed Music industry. Not social media, straight p2p banking sites. RECRUITMENT 2.0 – already recruitment is dead. In Australia, the big recruiters have been busily buying up any small recruitment company that has been able to Continue Reading…
