Im updating my corporate World of Warcraft course and came across this: I’m not using it, but it’s funny: This ring is a drop (gift or prize) from a Fishing quest. Here’s the discussion about the ring on Thottbot: on moonglade they sell it for 90 bid and 160 buyout i buy it cuz i ganna ask a girl in rl with this ring ^.^ (burninger) couple things wrong with proposing with this ring…1) it’s a wedding band –not an engagement ring. If you want to “propose” http://thottbot.com/i7340 might be a better choice2) proposing with this ring without something in Continue Reading…

Want a list of Australian CEOs that are on Twitter? Scroll to the bottom. Business Week have a piece on each CEO that uses the so-called ‘microblogging’ service Twitter. I don’t like the term micro-blogging when applied to Twitter as it’s less of a one-to-many asynch depth of content site like a video blog or a multimedia blog and more of a few-to-few synchronous chat channel. Tweets From the Chiefs The best chief executives are nothing if not efficient, and what’s more efficient than 140-character memos? Microblogging site Twitter is the latest tech tool to enter the C-suite. Whether they Continue Reading…

Google has gone into partnership with the ubiquitous cable magnate John Malone and the bank HSBC to give internet access to people in Africa and other nations via LEO satellites. Financial Times: They will today announce an order for 16 low-earth orbit satellites from Thales Alenia Space, the French aerospace group, as the first stage in a $750m project to connect mobile masts in a swath of countries within 45 degrees of the equator to fast broadband networks. Larry Alder, product manager in Google’s alternative access group, said the project could bring the cost of bandwidth in such markets down Continue Reading…

Well, that didn’t take long. Google’s free service Blogspot is hosting Whats Sarah Thinking – a faux Sarah Palin blog. What’s Sarah Thinking?Sarah Palin’s secret diary of her life as a babe, mom, wife, and political animal Sarah Palin, in case you missed out on recent news, is John McCain’s choice as running mate and possible Vice President in the upcoming American elections. Nicknamed Sarah Barracuda she is a funny mix of seemingly opposing ideaologies and activities. It occurs to me that this is the user generated content version of political satire. Yes, I know it was obvious – I’m Continue Reading…

Am I being overly- politically sensitive or does this kind of graffiti suck bigtime?BigPond Graffiti/Advertising on Second Life/Aboriginal Sacred Space, Uluru It might only be a virtual world, it might just be Second Life – but I believe we take our values with us. In-and-out of real world, virtual world, doesn’t matter, we reveal who we are at all times. I don’t really care for what BigPond reveals about themselves … do you? Incidentally, BigPond went to a lot of trouble to get permission to use Uluru in Second Life – you are not allowed to walk on it for Continue Reading…

I was in Melbourne yesterday, giving the keynote at Glen Frost’s Frocomm New Media Summit conference. Great crowd, lots of thoughts flying around. Government 2.0 and Public Servants 2.0 View SlideShare presentation or Upload your own. (tags: government public) Basically I went through a few different types of social media networks – blog (content), wikis (collaboration) and so forth. I also included this video of RocketOn to show the Live WebRocketOn – a layer over normal web pages so that Avatars can chat about the news and play with pixel branded products. …and also made mention of non-media social networks Continue Reading…

Brilliant article from Mark Day today: I’ve just grabbed a few paragraphs, read the whole thing yourself ) Fairfax media puts future of newspapers under spotlight There are three kinds of news: happening, manufactured and revealed. Happening news is a jumbo jet explosion at 10,000m or a car crash at peak hour. It can be of great consequence, affecting the lives of many, or it can be inconsequential by dint of it being far away, on another continent. (more) Manufactured news is, at its most important, the outcome of, say, a prime ministerial press conference to announce a tax cut Continue Reading…

Clipping: Heritage Media have a cake fundraising day. Revenues are tight. I made Duncan Riley giggle the other night by calling Mainstream Media or Old Media or print/tv/radio media “Heritage Media”. It’s not my term – but I forget where I heard it first. But it stuck. (Duncan Riley’s Forget MSM or Old Media, Heritage Media is the Term post) It actually is quite nice – one thinks of listing The Australian and Fin Review on a heritage National Trust list, volunteers manning (personning?) the desks and strict injunctions against changing anything – the masthead, the font, the bylines. Perhaps Continue Reading…
