Today Tonight’s whisper marketing story last week is an old story rehashed and mashed-up. For example: Ruth: Oh… They’ve got the eggplant. Have you tried this one?Woman: NoRuth: It’s the best. — Channel 7, Today Tonight, 8th March, 2004 The clip with that “discussion” was shown in both 2004 and 2008. No need to come up with a new story if you can just cut and paste old footage, right? Whisper marketing sucks by the way. Which is what Tim Longhurst was telling them. Tim Longhurst: It’s a huge risk for a company to take, to take a whisper marketing Continue Reading…

Oh I don’t know what’s going on over at wikipedia (also called “NotNotableEnoughEncyclopedia” or “NotMadeInAmerica Wikipedia) about poor ol’ Sol Trujillo. From IT Wire: Telstra heavies Wikipedia to protect CEO’s imageReports have emerged revealing that, back in March this year, Telstra lawyers wrote to Wikipedia alleging that some parts of the entry on Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo were defamatory and demanding their immediate removal: Which may explain why his entry today is bereft of any reference to the many critical articles about him published in the early days of his Telstra leadership. (There is now a follow-up article on this Continue Reading…

Hey, if you can figure out a login/password, lemme know? But ssshhhh! Oh y’know it’s funny to find out the CIA are using social media for intellipedia: Intellipedia was founded in April 2006 [1] and consists of three wikis running on JWICS, SIPRNet, and Intelink-U. They are used by individuals with appropriate clearances from the 16 agencies of the United States intelligence community and other national-security related organizations, including Combatant Commands and federal departments. The wikis are not open to the public. … well goshdarnit *pouts* I guess if your organisation says they don’t want to use ‘social’ media cos Continue Reading…

I have spoken – publicly at conferences, and here on the blog – over the last couple of years at least, about the need for an unIndustry organisation to protect our content from interactive, new and digital media agencies, amongst others. Here’s another example of why (definatalie): Get FUNK’D! Say no to design contests. FUNK’D have posted in the Red Bubble forums (and I suspect a few others) about their label competition. Please consider absolutely all the entry conditions before entering a design contest like this. From their website’s FAQ: Do you offer a cash prize? We do not offer a Continue Reading…

David N Wallace has written a great post about accessing touch technologies and the disabled. The Touch Barrier – Accessibility and usability issues around touch technologies June 14th, 2008 I’m Worried. Worried about recent technology developments – actually the application of one technology in particular – touch. In this instance, when I say ‘touch’ I’m referring to devices requiring skin – a finger as opposed to a stylus – ala the iPhone and nearly every laptop on the market. (read more) Yes. It’s important and not a minority issue. How about this for game benefits? Disabled Gamers’ Comprise 20% of Casual-Videogame Continue Reading…

I’m tired of being told that we bloggers, (which is, y’know, the general population) are: in an echo chamber and have no original thoughts, that we only copy and paste traditional media articles and add no value, that we find other bloggers we agree with and never hear the opposing point of view (*falls off chair laughing* you have to be KIDDING, right?) that we write crap grammar and can’t spell (oh ok, I’ll pay that one, but ‘ave you read the Telegraph lately?) that we are paedophiles, sometimes spelt pedophiles (depends on the journo’s spellchecker), scam artists, have no Continue Reading…

I speak at a few conferences. I don’t consider myself a professional public speaker – no more than I am a professional blogger, it’s an aside from my main business – but I like public speaking. It gives me an audience for high level views of my ideas, forces me capture the essence of my thoughts in 40 minutes which in turn helps me to develop the concepts into 1/2 day, 1 day or 3 day workshops. I meet people who love what I talk about and I get free coffee and bikkies. Sometimes a rather average glass of white Continue Reading…

Google/YouTube aren’t quite there yet… : NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Google has struggled to find the best way to monetize YouTube. The latest idea: Let content creators sell ads. Professional content producers — those who come equipped with their own ad-sales teams — are now able to sell advertising on their YouTube channels. That includes the click-to-expand overlays that run across the bottoms of YouTube videos and display units on the page that hosts the video player. The revenue is split between the content creator and YouTube, just as it would be if YouTube sold the ads. In August last Continue Reading…
