Remember one of my mantras? Your staff are members of online social networks too? Hat tip to Steven Lewis at Zest: Irish blogger Damien Mulley complained on his blog about the service of his airline’s ground agent, Sky Handling Partner. In return someone at Sky Handling Partner allegedly signed Damien up for some gay dating websites. Now there’s an oopsie in the making… (front page of Digg already happened). I remember employing (accidentally!) a hacker back on 1995 who, upon being sacked and removed from the premises, signed me up for a million listservs. Bless. Once I tracked down the Continue Reading…

I’ve been wandering the seedy underbelly of *flipping* sites. This is where someone builds a site, with affiliate marketing and ads and stuff, builds traffic to the site then sells it. Typically used for spamming – for example, create a tonne of domains called MySpaceFriends, FriendsMySpace, MyFriendsSpace and they are all basically the same, linking to each other, sharing the Google Juice and all sorts of clever reasons why. But at first glance this TagsPage site looked sorta genuine. Problem is, I can’t see the purpose. Why would someone come to a tagspage for a spam-tag search. Whats spam tagging Continue Reading…

It’s seriously hard to get good ROI figures on engaging bloggers in helping with marketing. Dunno why, I guess companies either can’t measure it, or are so happy, they don’t want to tip off the opposition. But here’s some (from WOMMA): Toyota Greece Takes Bloggers for a Test-Drive Word of mouth marketing isn’t just an American trend. It’s a global phenomenon. As proof, one need only glance across the Atlantic to Greece, where Toyota recently completed a campaign in which it engaged a team of Greek bloggers to spread the word about its new hatchback model, the Auris. Toyota wanted Continue Reading…

Snaffled directly from TechCrunch: Ning Rolls Out Facebook App Builder: Embed Your Social Network In a Social Network Michael Arrington Ning, the build-your-own social network startup, will be rolling out a new feature that allows users to create their own Facebook applications around their Ning networks later this evening. This won’t be a Ning app – rather, they are giving network operators (users who’ve created Ning social networks and other applications) the ability to easily create a branded Facebook application. The example screen shot (click for larger view) shows integration of Pumkins Central (a Ning social network) videos. The screen Continue Reading…

When I was in primary school there was another little girl who’s birthday was around the same day as mine. (Who said Aries are competitive? pfft.) Instead of being friends, we came to hate each other because it was always a competition to see who in class was buddies with whom. “You can’t go to her party, you’re my friend, you have to come to mine!!” *tantrum* Oh the Tears! the Drama! The Heartbreak! Thankfully it stopped when we reached 30. So I completely commiserate with eBay, the poor loves. eBay yanks ads from Google AdWords network Online auctioneer eBay Continue Reading…

…or faking it in real life. from the Huffington Post: Beth Appel| BIO Will Marry for Cash A little over a year ago, shortly after I moved to New York and was half-heartedly looking for a job, I got an email from my friend Ben asking, “Want to pretend to be engaged?” along with an link to a Craigslist ad offering $400 for “recently married or engaged couples” to participate in a focus group about relationships. Not only was I hard up for cash, but I also knew that this was my only chance to be in a relationship with Continue Reading…

I get confused when PR people launch a service ignore niche communities online. But it’s addles my poor brain even more when it’s a Web 2.0 service provider ignoring We Media. Sooooo, I found this a little mind-boggling: traditional media > than bloggers when promoting social networking sites? I may have missed one of you, but I went through blogs from Ad:Tech (february) onwards and didn’t see any of you lot talking up Bebo. : PR Case study – Bebo 7 June 2007 Posted by Catriona Pollard in case studies. trackback Bebo is a global social networking website which aims Continue Reading…

Hat Tip: Stephen Withers of ITWire. Brisbane and Launceston helpdesks of Telstra are being closed down – or ‘boned’ (Telstra employee words, not mine). Nothing too unusual I guess – redundancies happen- just odd that Telstra have what… 14 bloggers? This is the second one to be booted. Conversation over Technical Difficulties: It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine… by Nic Frankpitt, Friday, 08 June 2007 This post contains an angry person ranting. I thought you might like that as a warning, first of all. If you don’t want to read it, that’s Continue Reading…

It’s 4am and I am madly trying to catch up on my feeds. Just came across this Flickr Loves You from Ben Buchanan:Notice the “LOVES YOU”? Wot’s all that about then? (In a Charlie Brewer accent). So off I popped to Flickr Blog to check it out: A Flickr Marriage Hi Flickr People. Yesterday, June 2nd 2007, we got married, two and ahalf years after meeting each other here on Flickr. This is an amazingplace, with amazing people, many of whom we’ve met around the world. Most importantly for us, without Flickr, we would probably have nevermet, although we’d like to Continue Reading…

are more videos from Lachy. Aye. Wannabe from Spice Girls. hey if Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson can lip sync, why not Lachlan Hunt, hmmm? Who says YouTube is full of User Generated Crap. *winks*. My Hero. Lachlan made the video to explain the video element at WebJam Sydney – and, unsurprisingly, won firt prize. My claim to fame: He and I both have the same HD-DVD Processing Key t-shirt (09-F9-11-02-9D-74-E3-5B-D8-41-56-C5-63-56-88-C0) but I wore mine on the night. Here’s the DIGG post. EDIT: Nearly forgot, YsabellaBrave (MaryAnne) got signed! woot! go girl! (sorry, long time fan here, sorry sorry, I’ll Continue Reading…

I presented on Crucipod at an AIIA lunch a few months ago so apologies if it’s getting boring but I will keep coming back to user generated *humour*, how you set up Purpose, and how you define Rules within your social network. For those of you who didn’t attend: Apple didn’t find this manipulation of their iconic brand image funny.Today in Second Life I saw this (you can see the ABC logo in the background). Be warned, the preceding link is a SLurl and takes you in-world, not to the website:That’s my beautifully coiffered head and gorgeous wings you can see Continue Reading…
