We spent waaaay too much time giggling with Ken at CeBIT. He was the guy mooching around on the CSIRO votapedia stand. Votapedia is run on Mediawiki. You set up the survey and then people can ring in to vote using their mobiles . They get the busy tone when they vote, so they don’t pay for the call. Here’s the latest survey: This is an optical illusion but not every one sees it the same way. We are endeavouring to discover what proportion of the population see it which way. After voting you can look at the answer. The Continue Reading…

She spoke and left with no question-time. Ack, I should’ve written this up earlier when it was all fresh and pumping. Is that why blogs are so darn addictive? Anyway, here goes. Politics have to change the way they “use” conferences and events to launch their bits of paper. I’m serious. Preaching to Continue Reading…

I’m rather taken with dotSub.com – post up a video and the community subtitles it for you. I’m not sure why it is so fascinating. Perhaps it’s just the thought of some guy in Italy or some girl in Russia viewing my footage and then interpreting it for me. Which brings me to a point I have thought about a few times in the last few years and that was sort-of brought up at the not-for-profit conference I went to earlier this week, CommunIT CU07. Its this: there are no longer only 3 sectors in mixed and capitalist economies – Continue Reading…

I met a soulmate at Connecting Up 2007 CISA conference in Adelaide – David N Wallace. We had a semi-heated discussion about blogs (they ARE SO 1-2-many!) and then rolled our collective eyes at AUCDs renewed push to create artificial Sensis-sponsored communities around geo-locales. More on that later. Checking out his personal blog and then his other one, I found a link to this article from EurekaStreet about SecondLife and people with disabilities. Which was coincidental because I had a discussion about the good bad and ugly re: virtual world and abilities/disabilities with someone annoying recently. I was trying to Continue Reading…

Don’t tell anyone. Promise? A ‘secret’ Google URL displays search results minus AdWords adsAmit Agarwal, while writing on his blog Digital Inspiration, has mentioned of a ‘secret’ Google Search URL that prevents the search results page from displaying any AdWords ads that are otherwise seen on the top and right sections of the Google web pages. Knowing that Google makes most of its money from displaying AdWords ads, it would be interesting to see how Google deals with this ‘secret’ URL that could potentially make an adverse impact on its revenue. http://www.google.com/search?output=googleaboutheh. Never let it be said that I don’t follow through. I blogged the other day about Google having a G’Day California in GooglePlex US to attract employees to come to Australia to work. It’s all happening at 6-9pm today Mountain View California time. I think that’s about 7am to 10am tomorrow our time. Don’t take my word for it though – my ability to do time zone conversions is about as good as my ability take direction and read maps and keep my mouth shut and … : Or is there something we could do online at that time (6-9pm Continue Reading…
