From TechMag: Yahoo India is beta testing mashup sites, called Our City, for Bangalore and Delhi. According to Yahoo Our City, users would be able to explore and share city-specific photos, videos, events, news, weather, blogs and trip plans. The content on the Yahoo Our City mashup sites is sourced from various online sources including Wikipedia, Flickr, Yahoo Video, Upcoming and del.icio.us. Hey Vicki (and everyone)! Look what I found! I swear, I wasn’t even looking and then I saw this ad and when I clicked through I found the websidestory report that has JUST come out – page 1 New Technologies have emerged – has your web analytics solution kept up? We were only talking about this earlier today. Wierd huh? *plays twilight zone music* They claim there are four keys to online success for media and content web sites. Increase Online Advertising Revenue – streaming video and audio. Provide Fresh and Compelling Content – they talk about KPIs of % Continue Reading…

We interrupt our scheduled broadcast to bring you this nifty little song from New York Times blogger, David Pogue: ‘I Got YouTube’ A couple of weeks back, I laid one of my famous high-tech song spoofs on you (”R.I.A.A.“). I was certain the Pogue Grumpy Squad would lash out, condemning me for abandoning my usual gig of tech reviews. But no-they liked it just fine. And so, in celebration of the new world of Web video, I’m offering an encore. This one, you have to sing to the tune of Sonny and Cher’s immortal classic, “I Got You Babe.” (Tip Continue Reading…

… it ain’t. Well this was a myth I subscribed to, until this morning, so from this demographic of 1 (albeit an important 1!) I thought I’d share my findings. Although I’ve been following Helen Coonan’s new laws and such on radio, I thought it was all a bit of a storm in a teacup. I mean, who cares about digital radio when the whole genre is for old people and those driving without an iPod in their car, right? Until I read scripting.com: There’s a conference for public radio stations at the end of the month in Boston. I Continue Reading…

… is important. Not so. Analytics just aren’t keeping up with Web 2.0. Oh they have their place, but they aren’t capturing what’s valid today. For a start, do you want 10,000 visitors that stay for a minute or two then click off, probably to a competitor? Or are you interested in repeat customers “eyeballs” who stay an hour or two, creating and generating content around your product and services, whether its a cool user generated ad or something simple like peer2peer technical support forums? The window shopper or the TV viewer model? Where does unique visitors fit into that Continue Reading…

… is the same as a content rich site. Not so. A content rich site is where you put up fotos and videos, information packs, games, forums, blogs, personalities, favourites, interviews with blah blah, breaking news, advertisements, competitions. And so on. And maybe it will work. And maybe it won’t and you’ll end up with a content rich digital graveyard. And if you followed the format of your competitor, chances are you both will end up with an over-priced, under-used portal. Only MySpace can be MySpace. Compelling content can be an empty site, brand spanking new, a video server (empty), Continue Reading…

I met a nice chappie the other day – I think he had something to do with this mob, before heading downunder to run a division of Citizen Murdoch’s online news labs here. News Corporation’s Times Media division has relaunched Times Online, spending over £10m in revamping the design, editorial, marketing and technology powering timesonline.co.uk. The new site has been completely redesigned and offers a greater variety of video and audio content, with both a UK and global edition accessible via the site’s homepage. The publisher has also expanded its world news coverage on issues like the Middle East and Continue Reading…

Lots of digital graveyards out there: AFR Access has 892 paid subscribers with a target of 20,000. That’s less than 5% of the target. It cost $11 million to build. From Crikey‘s Tips and Rumours. There are other business models they could (and should) be pursuing…
